MISSION STATEMENT

To deliver services that enhance the quality of life of all citizens through recreational programming and effectively maintain and develop Laredo’s park system. Imagine a job where you dream up activities to entertain, build exciting equipment and develop programs that are stimulating, healthy and fun.

That accurately describes the challenge of the City of Laredo Parks and Recreation Department, a challenge that these employees take very seriously.

“We work hard so that others can play,”

is the motto of the over 200 employees of the Department.

And with parks, splash parks, skate parks, recreation centers, swimming pools, tennis & racquetball courts and softball fields in their care, they certainly do work hard.

Letter from Director

Letter from Director

No matter what month of the year it is, those of us lucky enough to live in Laredo have a wide world of recreation activities available to all city residents. The Laredo Parks & Recreation Department is here to provide you with many options for fun year-round. Whether you like organized sports, a long bike ride, or simply a stroll on one of our walking trails, you and your family have countless of recreation options to choose from during the year.

I hope the City of Laredo Parks & Recreation Department Web Site is helpful to you in learning about the many programs & activities our department offers the community. We encourage you to get up, be active and get involved with your community, visit any of our City Parks or any of our state of the art recreation center facilities, swimming pools or tennis courts.

As the Parks & Recreation Department Director, I can assure you our department staff will work hard to continue to provide high quality parks, recreational facilities and fun activities that will enhance the lives of our residents from pre-school to senior citizens and those with special needs at all of our clean and well-maintained and safe facilities.

As in so many other aspects of life, the key to running a successful department is having the ability to strike a balance between young and old, traditional and innovative, the need of one versus the needs of many. Keeping this in mind, our employees continually strive to honor the past while embracing the challenges of the future and to serve an entire community, while maintaining meaningful connections with individual participants.

As we proceed in the years ahead, we plan to update our existing parks, install new parks as the city continues to grow and extend our present trail system. I enthusiastically encourage you and your family to use and enjoy all our parks, trails, pools and recreational facilities.
