What is the role of the Parks & Recreation Services Department?

To deliver services that enhance the quality of life of all citizens through educational and recreational programming and effectively maintain and develop Laredo’s park system.

What does Parks & Recreation Services offer to the community?

It provides various sports events such as 5k runs, swim meets, tennis and softball tournaments, basketball and volleyball leagues, and various track and field events and competitions. We also host special events such as concerts, fiestas and holiday celebrations. In addition, we have baseball and soccer fields, recreation centers, libraries, trails, rental facilities, and various parks with amenities for the community to enjoy. For water pleasure, the Aquatics Division offers classes in water aerobics, lap swimming, and learn to swim classes.

What type of activities or programs do the recreation centers offer?

Recreation Centers offer basketball and volleyball games and leagues, Zumba, aerobics, skateboarding, chess, martial arts, boxing, alternative sports, alternative aerobics, INEA classes, computer classes, arts and crafts activities and after school programs as well as an array of special events.

Are there any recreation centers exclusively for Senior Citizens in Laredo?

We have three recreation centers for our Seniors to enjoy different activities and to work out: La Ladrillera Recreation Center on 2301 Bruni; Fasken Senior Center on 15201 Cerralvo Dr.; Downtown Senior Fitness Center on 1212 Matamoros.

More than 100 parks throughout the city.

What is the cost to rent a pool or pavilion?

Pavilions - $150.00 + $50.00 deposit for a 5 hour block or $50.00 an hour + deposit Del Mar/Thomas/Freddie Benavides Pool = Rental $60.00 an hour + $50.00 deposit Lifeguards: Min. 1 head guard & 2 lifeguards for 40 people an additional lifeguard is for every 20 people. Head guard charges $10.00 an hr. & $9.00 an hr. for a lifeguard. Civic Center Pool: Rental $100.00 an hr. + $50.00 deposit Lifeguards: Min. 1 head guard & 9 lifeguards for 120 people an additional lifeguard is needed for every 20 people. Head guard charges $10.00 an hr. and $9.00 an hr. for a lifeguard.

When will they add more soccer fields?

Open areas are currently being considered for this type of use.

At what age can a child use recreational facilities?

A child must be 6 years old to enter the recreational facility by themselves unless accompanied and supervised by a parent at all times.

Who maintains the parks?

The City of Laredo Parks and Recreation Department Parks Maintenance Division comprised of crew leaders, groundskeepers, and building and grounds supervisors.

Who picks up the branches?

Is the Lake Casa Blanca part of The Parks Department?

No. They are under the Texas Department of Parks and Wildlife. For more information call 725-3826

Who needs a parade permit? What is required?

A permit is required for any procession occupying any street. To obtain a permit, the following must be submitted: a letter of intent from an organization which includes the name of organization, number of anticipated participants, reason for parade, contact person, address, date/time of event, parade route, copy of liability insurance(if using vehicle), and 2 valid copies of CPR certifications.
